While revitalizing the historic heart of Franklin, the post office was recognized by the townspeople as a community focal point contributing to its economic and social fabric. But, like post offices across small-town America, Franklin's downtown postal facility was scheduled to be moved away from its accessible main street to a highway on the edge of town, leaving the historic post office building vacant.
