Pine Grove School
Columbia, SC
The Pine Grove School was built in 1923. Though it was used as a community building from 1963 until 2001, it has been closed to the public since 2002.
The organization will use the funding to complete the exterior stabilization and restoration of the building. Old siding will be removed and replaced with new, approved siding. Insulation and sheathing will be added to the walls, attic and floor, and a vapor barrier will be installed on the windows and doors. The exterior will also be painted.
Once complete, the school will be used as a community museum and education site. Curriculum will be developed that will compliment the school system's existing social studies plans and will provide teachers with the tools necessary to incorporate the information into the classroom.
The Richland County Recreation Foundation will manage the restoration project. Click here to learn more about the organization.
