National Rosenwald Schools Conference: Session Submissions

Do you have a cutting edge idea or concept? Are you involved with a first-rate Rosenwald school project? Are you making advances in preserving the history and legacy of Rosenwald Schools? If so, then consider submitting a proposal to the Rosenwald Schools Conference.

We seek proposals that explore critical issues and present cutting-edge strategies and models.  Of special interest, are sessions that present multiple case studies, solutions, and challenges built around the conference theme “100 Years of Pride, Progress and Preservation.”

Education Session

Education Sessions cover a variety of topics such as assessing the physical condition of Rosenwald Schools, neighborhood revitalization, preserving oral traditions, and heritage tourism. Education Session proposals are reviewed by a selection committee and may be combined when appropriate with other proposed sessions. These 90-minute classroom style sessions should be interactive, featuring not more than three speakers and a moderator and a Q&A discussion at the end of the session.

Field Session

Are you or your organization involved in preservation related work in Tuskegee, Montgomery, and surrounding Alabama communities?

This is your opportunity to showcase your work to several hundred  preservation professionals and volunteers, researchers and Rosenwald Schools alumnus from across the United States. What makes your project special? What successes have you had and where have your best efforts failed? What can you offer other attendees as lessons, advice, suggestions, great ideas, and strategies? Show off your significant historic sites, buildings, and landscapes that connect to preserving Rosenwald Schools and history. Demonstrate your strategies to save buildings and local history. Be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Field Session proposals are reviewed by a selection committee, and may be combined when appropriate with other proposed sessions. The National Rosenwald Schools Conference is the first national educational convening to address the specific needs of communities preserving Rosenwald heritage.  Field sessions take conference attendees into the community and region for a first-hand look at local preservation projects, topics, and sites, and teach lessons that attendees can apply in their own communities.

Poster Presentations

Poster Presentations are a perfect way to highlight a success, describe a program, or just share your work. Layout and content are left to the discretion of the poster presenter, use as much or a little text/visual material as you wish. Posters should include contact information for conference participants who may wish to contact you after the conference.  Size of the board and other details will be sent with acceptance letters.

Posters will be displayed during the Opening Reception, and presenters must be in attendance.
