The Annie E. Colbert Rosenwald School

Dayton, Texas

The Annie E. Colbert Rosenwald School was built in 1933.  Because of its current condition and the ongoing restoration, it is not currently being used.

The exterior of the building has already been refurbished so the grant funds will be used to complete the interior.  Interior work will include a new HVAC system, sheetrock for interior walls, painting, a new bathroom, and new electrical.

Once complete, the building will be used as a museum for the campus and the community, as well as for other community events.

The Dayton Independent School District will manage the project.  Visit the their website to learn more, or contact Tracy Hayes in the Southern Regional Office.

This Rosenwald School received a restoration grant in 2010 from the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
