The Barney Colored Elementary School was built in 1931. Currently, the building is vacant and unsuitable for use.
The grant funds will be used to stabilize the building, replace and repair exterior siding, replace electrical systems, repair and replace doors and windows, and paint the interior and exterior.
Once complete, the building will serve as a multi-purpose community facility for the citizens of Barney and surrounding areas. It will offer technology classes, library resources, mentoring programs and more.
