Durham's Chapel Rosenwald School was built in 1923 and has remained in constant use as a community meeting place as well as for tours. The building continues to function as the center of social life in Durham's Chapel Community.
The grant will support the building conservation project to ensure the safety and security of the building for many more years. The foundation will be stabilized, the roof repaired, the electrical system upgraded, and the sidewalk repaired.
Once complete, the building will continue to be used for educational tours, club meetings, lodge meetings, dinners, programs, weddings, and other community celebrations.
