The Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society
Acworth Rosenwald School
Acworth, Georgia
The Acworth Rosenwald School was built in 1924 and has been actively used since 1953, serving a central role in the local African American Community.
Repairs will be made to both interior and exterior elements of the building. A new HVAC system will be installed, in addition to other upgrades to insure that the building is ADA and fire code compliant.
The Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society will manage the restoration project. Visit www.cobblandmarks.com for more information.
To learn more about the Acworth Rosenwald School or any of the other Rosenwald School grant recipients, contact Tracy Hayes in the National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office.
Once restored, the building will continue to be used for community events, as a social hall, and as an extension of local community members' homes. An exhibit of local artifacts will be developed and displayed in the building. The artifacts will span the eight decades that the building has been linked to the community
This Rosenwald School received a restoration grant in 2008 from the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
