The May's Lick Negro School was built in 1916 and remained in use until 2006.

The grant funding will be applied to the rehabilitation of the structure and exterior elements of the building.  The roof, roof trusses, exterior soffit, and brick window openings will be repaired or replaced.  These improvements will help to weatherize the building and protect it from future damage.

Upon completion, the building will be used as a museum for both school and local history, as a satellite location for the local public library,  and as a community and meeting center.

May's Lick Community Development  will manage the restoration project.
