Old Merritt School
Midway, AL
![]()
Constructed in 1922, the Old Merritt School has long served as a local meeting center, educational facility, food bank, and quilting center.
The project funds will help to repair the deteriorating interior rooms with floor and ceiling repairs and fresh paint. Exterior repairs will include windows and siding, and fresh paint.
Once restored, the building will continue to server the larger community. Space will be used for a quilting and craft workshop, and meeting rooms will be available to community groups. Eventually, the first Midway Community Library will be established in the south west room.
The Old Merritt Midway Community Center, Inc. will manage the restoration project.
