W.D. Spigner Elementary School was built in 1929.  It is one of few, original Rosenwald School buildings still in use today for public education and community events.

Major repairs to the school will be undertaken in two stages.  The first will include joist and floor repairs to prevent water drainage.  The second phase will address school safey issues, which may consist of window, door and roof repairs or replacements.

These repairs and improvements will insure the building's continued use for the original purpose: to educate local African American youth in need of assistance.

The Calvert Independent School District will manage the restoration project.  To learn more, visit www.calvertisd.com.
