Second Union School

Goochland, VA

Second
The siding, roof and concrete steps will be repaired at the Second Union School.

The Second Union School was built in 1918.  Until recently, the building was used as a storage facility for a neighboring church.

The funds will be used to repair the roof, windows, and concrete steps and build a ramp to improve accessibility.  Exterior work will include painting and replacement of rotten siding boards.  Interior work will include painting and electrical work.

Once restored, the buidling will be used as the Center for the History of Black Education in Goochland County.

The Goochland County Historical Society will manage the restoration project.  To learn more, visit www.goochlandhistory.org.

For more information about the Second Union School or any of the other Rosenwald School grant recipients, contact Tracy Hayes in the National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office.
