Shiloh Rosenwald School

Notasulga, AL

Shiloh
The Shiloh Rosenwald School will receive new stairs, an access ramp, and a fresh coat of paint thanks to the Lowe's grant.

The Shiloh Rosenwald School was  built in 1921.

As part of a larger restoration project, the grant funds will be used to install  an HVAC system, insulation, a handicapped ramp and a sprinkler system.  Interior and exterior painting will be completed and the doors and floors of the school will be restored.

Once restored, the building will be used as a museum and community outreach center.  Programs will include GED, nutrition, job preparation, job hunting and health classes.  The site will also be part of the Black Heritage Tourism Trail within the Black Belt of Alabama.

The Shiloh Community Restoration Foundation will manage the restoration project.

For more information about the Shiloh Rosenwald School or any of the other Rosenwald School grant recipients, contact Tracy Hayes in the National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office.
