Columbia Rosenwald School

West Columbia, TX

Columbia
Grant funds will be used to complete the interior restoration at the Columbia Rosenwald School.

The Columbia Rosenwald School was built in 1921.  Until the building was aquired by the Columbia Historical Museum in 1990 and relocated to its grounds, the building was being used as a hay barn.

The grant funds will be used to complete the building's interior restoration.  That includes updating the electrical system, HVAC installation, woodwork restoration and painting.

Upon completion, the building will become a Children's Museum and extension of the Columbia Historical Museum.  The building will once again be a one-room school experience for visiting classes from local schools.

The Columbia Historical Museum will manage the restoration project.  To learn more, visit www.ColumbiaRosenwaldSchool.com or watch their video.

For more information about the Columbia Rosenwald School or any of the other Rosenwald School grant recipients, contact Tracy Hayes in the National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office.
