Auburn, Colfax, and the Chinese StoreDutch Flat, California
Period of significance: 1870s
Auburn and Colfax had large Chinese populations, and some of their possessions are on display at museums in this area. Summit Tunnel #12 demonstrates the Chinese innovations during the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. The Chinese stone wall is located nearby at Donner Pass. A restored abode warehouse dates from the 1870s, when the Chinese population had grown due to mining and the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. The store is privately-owned and closed to the public but can be seen from the street.
