On Highway 127 between Las Vegas and Death Valley is the China Ranch Date Farm. Some time between 1850 and 1900 Quon Sing (Ah Foo) developed the ranch to provide meat, vegetables, and fruit for the miners and others in the neighboring area. He found that dates, popular in the Chinese diet, grew well in this isolated desert region. The land came into the hands of State Senator Brown. Brown and his descendants developed the date farm and produce a wide variety of dates. Telephone 760/852-4415.
