The Cooper Molera Adobe preserves life from the era when Monterey was part of Mexico to the beginnings of California statehood. This 3-acre site includes a house built by several generations of the Cooper and Molera families, historic barns, vegetable and flower gardens, and an extensive museum store.
The Adobe is located in Historic Downtown Monterey, which was named one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2006.
This site is owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and operated by California State Parks, which was named as one of the 11 Most Endangered in 2008 due to years of chronic underfunding and deferred maintenance. The Adobe will end its daily free public tours beginning September 8, 2009. The garden and Museum Store will continue to remain open because they are staffed by volunteers; school programs will continue with paid admission; and group tours are available by appointment with paid admission.
