Hi Wo Company Grocery Store
Visitor Information398 E. 4th St.
Many Chinese, especially members of the Ong (Ng/Wu) clan, opened grocery stores throughout Arizona. This little store, opened by a Chinese railroad worker turned entrepreneur, in 1896 was still run by his descendants in the 1990s and is a step back into time with the products on display (wooden clothespins, washboards, etc.). 398 E. 4th St. stands as a reminder of the Chinese population which came to Benson when the railroads were built. Hi Wo was respected deeply throught the community and carried many Benson citizens through the Depression.
