Year Listed: 2011
Set amidst winding country roads and family-owned vineyards, Sonoma, California offers all the perks of being in the heart of wine country, but with the added benefit of a down-to-earth attitude. One of the most historic towns in the West, it is a wonderful blend of historic charm and modern flair. Known for world-class wines and international award-winning artisan breads and cheeses, the town boasts 26 restaurants in just 2.2 square miles. Its past is felt inside many of these restaurants, which are housed inside historic buildings.
Among the town’s most unique historic sites are the two-story Blue Wing Adobe, dating to the 1850s and the most historic hostelry in California, and hand-carved wine barrels and redwood tanks at Sebastiani Winery, some of which are over 100 years old. For outdoor fun, visitors can also rent bicycles and explore the town or take a bike tour of local vineyards.
