Protected coves, narrow inlets, and island passages lead to the secluded and charming ports of Bar Harbor, including Acadia National Park and the romantic Rockefeller carriage roads; Castine, with its rich Revolutionary War history; Rockland and the Farnsworth Art Museum, repository of a nationally-recognized collection; Camden, one of Maine's earliest resorts; and Belfast, featuring the Penobscot Marine Museum, comprised of a series of 19th-century structures, including sea captains' homes. John Meffert will be joining us this year, as we discover Maine’s maritime heritage, bringing his expert knowledge and enthusiasm which has made him a passenger favorite.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1 — Portland, Maine
Welcome reception
Day 2 — Portland and Penobscot Bay
Visit the Portland Museum of Art for a guided tour of its superb collection. Travel to nearby Prout’s Neck and enjoy lunch at the Black Point Inn; See the Portland Head Light before returning to Portland to embark the Independence
Day 3 — Bar Harbor
Enjoy a walking tour of Bar Harbor followed by a bus tour of Acadia National Park, including spectacular Cadillac Mountain
Day 4 — Castine
Sail past Eggemoggin Reach and Deer Isle Thoroughfare en route to Castine. Walking tours through Castine’s historic district will highlight the town’s architectural beauty. Visit the Castine Historical Society
Day 5 — Belfast & Camden
Travel to nearby Searsport to visit the Penobscot Marine Museum. Tour a 19th-century sea captain’s home, furnished with treasure brought back from the Orient. Cruise to Camden, considered the “tall ship capital of Maine,” Enjoy a scenic tour to Camden Hills State Park. High atop Mount Battie, experience sweeping ocean vistas, rugged coastlines and panoramic views of Camden, Penobscot Bay and surrounding islands
Day 6 — Rockland
Tour the Farnsworth Art Museum and the renown Wyeth Center dedicated to works by Andrew, N.C., and James Wyeth—America’s first family of art. Visit the Olson House, where Andrew Wyeth painted many works, including the well-known Christina’s World.
Day 7 — Boothbay Harbor
Walking tour of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Maine’s first and only botanical garden! The tour includes the Lerner Garden of the Five Senses, a garden created specifically to appeal to each of our senses. An alternative tour will be available to the Boothbay Historical Society, featuring artifacts that reflect the region’s colonial and coastal origins
Day 8 — Bath
Bath is home to the Maine Maritime Museum, where your vessel will dock. The museum is located on the site of a 19th-century working shipyard, and features paintings, models, artifacts, and interpretive exhibits of life at sea and maritime technology. Alternatively, you may take the trolley ride that includes historic narration of the town
Day 9 — Portland
Disembark the Independence, and transfer to the Portland Airport or Bangor Airport for individual flights home
