Pompeii, Herculaneum & Classical Campania
May 18 - 25, 2015
We spend a full day in Pompeii itself: wandering the byways of this immense archaeological site where shops, houses, theater, gladiatorial arena and bath-houses stand astonishingly complete after extensive excavation. Travel to Herculaneum, Pompeii’s smaller sister-city, buried to a greater depth with carbonized furniture and food surviving in two-storey Roman houses. Other highlights include the Greek temples and tombs at Paestum, the opulent imperial villa at Oplontis and the treasures of Naples Museum.
